An Icon Literally Walked Into the Business

We’ve had the privilege of partnering with many industry legends, and among them is Mel Copeland of Copeland Insurance Group. Recently, we got to speak with Mel on the “Inspire” Podcast and learn a little about how he got his start in insurance during the 1960s.

Back then, Mel was in the oil business, working in the Persian Gulf. He assumed that’s where his career would take him when he returned home to Texas.

But on his way to a job referral in Amarillo, he got a little lost and walked into an insurance office for directions. They asked him what he was looking for, and he said “a job,” so they got the manager and ended up hiring him on the spot!

And the rest was history — he literally walked into the business. Above is a photo of Mel during the 1960s when he got his start.

Many of us got into this industry by happenstance, and I know it wouldn’t be possible if this weren’t a group of people open to new opportunities and hard work. We are lucky to have some of the best — Mel and his wife, Melissa Copeland — join our Integrity family. Welcome to the team!
