Recently on the “Inspire” Podcast, we had the pleasure of hearing the inspiring story of Community Connections CEO Jennifer Jackson, her grit and her passion for serving her community.
Jennifer started her insurance career helping hospital patrons apply for Medicaid. But when she realized there were many who could also benefit from having access to Medicare, she piloted a program to help more people receive the coverage they deserved. In order to help even more of her community, Jennifer took the knowledge she had gained and opened her own agency. Having personally experienced many hardships in her past, Jennifer often worked for free to make sure everyone had access to help, no matter their circumstances.
Community Connections is based in Manchester, Kentucky, in the heart of one of the poorest regions in the United States. Jennifer and her team have made it their mission to care for the underserved members of this region.
Community Connections has seen huge success as they work to ensure their neighbors are getting the medical coverage and benefits they need. Jennifer says that the demand is so high that she doesn’t advertise — word of mouth keeps bringing more people to her door.
But Jennifer recognized that insurance wasn’t the only thing her clients needed. So she stepped up again. In addition to being a thriving insurance agency, Community Connections also operates a food pantry from the back of the office. They collect donated food and clothing to assist anyone in the area who needs help.
Jennifer’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. She has become a role model in her area. In recognition of Jennifer’s service, the Governor of Kentucky bestowed her the title of a Kentucky Colonel. It’s the highest honor the state can give. In addition to the title and certificate, it also means Jennifer is a distinguished guest at next year’s Kentucky Derby.
We are lucky to learn from Colonel Jennifer Jackson. Her heart for service is an inspiration and she reminds us why insurance matters. Check out the whole episode of the “Inspire” Podcast and hear more of her amazing story!
